What is real e-learning?

E-learning is a topic that is often misunderstood. Frequently, organisations digitize what they do already and re-label it as "e-learning".

This mostly consists of putting slide presentations of training material on a Server and instructing employees to access it and train themselves. Why do they do this? Because it is cheap and, they believe, effective. To be effective, e-learning must consist of more than some e-slideware - it requires an holistic approach and may include e-mentoring, discussion groups interactive material online and face to face contact. It requires a blended learning approach. Our Partner, Suzie Moon, has conducted extensive research into this topic, developed courses and is qualified under the European EPICT programme. e-mel can help your organisation develop effective e-learning courses. As an approved EPICT learning centre, we can deliver the EPICT programme to educational institutions. Contact us to find out more.

The British Computer Society (BCS) has recently produced a series of video debates in which e-learning experts discuss the future of e-learning and whether it will ever replace classroom learning.  BCS e-learning video debate
